Aero tractor

Posted by arun On November - 8 - 2009

The Aero is basically a 4×2 tractor with a 260PS engine that follows a modular chassis design. Which is to say, depending on its usage, the tractor can be configured differently, with suitable underpinnings and the like. The thought behind this concept however, which uses the Newgen cab, is to reduce drag during high speed travel. All believes once the road infrastructure reaches completion in a couple of years, the average speeds for travel will go up. Therefore the Aero employs body kit on the roof as well as on the sides to reduce drag as much as possible. It employs ZF’s 9 speed syncromesh gearbox along with dual line pneumatic brake system with bigger size foundation brakes. Inside, the cab is 2.5 metre wide and is cushioned with vehicular air suspension, seen for the first time in trucks here. It’s well executed too. HMV 6×6 meant solely for defence application, this all wheel drive truck is powered by the 260PS J series engine. It comes with the provision of disconnecting drive from the front axle. Tyres employed are wide 14.00 R20 radials, which help towards better floatation under extremely soft underfoot conditions.

Goldmember bike

Built to excel in terms of performance as well as be a showstopper, the Goldmember pushes the limits of a traditional push rod operated single cylinder engine to new a new high. The bike uses a crank of a V-twin motor but with only a single cylinder on it. The engine is rotated backwards and a little bit rewards near the transmission in order to make the engine room compact.

The push rod angle and cam shaft were modified for better airflow and combustion. The exhaust port angle with in order to better the folw of exhaust gases. The supercharger at the back of the front cylinder with an intercooler increases air flow to the engine. The final output of the engine is 960cc. It uses disk brakes are well hidden inside the drums which were machined from a 44.5 kilogram round chunk of aluminium. The Goldmember also gets a nitrous oxide system for an extra shot of power. The average speed recorded was 247km/h.

Mercedes will upgrade the safety of its E-class and S-class ranges next year when a new ranges next year when a new E class goes on sale. Safety upgrades to both ranges cover brakes, lights, belts, airbags and driver assistance systems. An in car camera and sensors build up a profile of the driver over about 20 minutes and can recognise any major variation in behaviour. Drivers will also be warned by a vibration through the wheel if they change lanes unintentionally, while rear- mounted radar sensors cover any blind spots when overtaking and flash up a red triangle in the door mirrors.
Mercedes is also introducing speed limit recognition and warning, plus automatic switching between the headlights main and dipped beams. The infrared night vision camera system pioneered in the S-class will be available on the new E-class and now highlights pedestrians on the in-dash screen. Mercedes claims it will match or better the BMW 5 series Efficient Dynamics models for fuel economy and CO2 savings.

Antilock Braking Systems (ABS)

Posted by arun On September - 30 - 2009

Stopping safely is one of the most important functions a motor vehicle can perform. Failure of the brake syatem will almost invariably result in property damage, personal injury or even death. Consequently, a great deal of consideration has been given to improving the brake system in trucks and passenger cars over the last nine decades. One of the latest improvements is an antilock brake system which prevents a vehicle’s brake from locking up and skidding during hard stops on wet roads.
The problem of skidding reveals the one overwhelming weakness of all motor vehicle braking systems. They depend strongly on the coefficient of static friction between the tire and the road. If the tyre momentarily loses its adhesion to the road while the brakes are applied, the friction of the brakes against the drums or rotors locks the wheel solidly and the tire begins skidding across the road. Antilock Braking Systems (ABS) is a form of electronic braking which was invented to help a driver control a vehicle under heavy braking by preventing the wheels from locking up.

Rolls will be showing this 200EX concept car at Geneva but it’s pretty much a production car.

It’s a Rolls for the masses – or the masses that have around £170k to spend. Still, it’s cheaper than the Phantom. Shorter and smaller, too.

The four-door 200EX uses many components from the new BMW 7-Series including its front and rear crash structures and unlike the Phantom it will be made of steel instead of aluminium.

Power comes from a V12 engine. The most interesting feature is the rear hinged doors, as used on the Phantom.

It goes on sale late this year by which time it will have a name. How about Silver Shadow?
